On 5 June, HBA launched their first ever Canadian chapter event in Toronto. The inaugural sold out event at The Spoke Club brightened up the otherwise rainy Wednesday evening. With over 80 attendees, women and men from every branch in healthcare and business had the opportunity to meet and network with other healthcare business professionals, build connections and support each other in career endeavors.
Danielle Portnik, HBA Toronto general manager, started off the event thanking those in attendance and giving an overview of HBA Toronto as well as goals for the future. She also introduced the full board of HBA Toronto: Nadia Sapiro, Fasiha Haq, Kate Wallace and Megan Migchels. HBA Toronto also had the honour and privilege of having Dr. Ponda Motsepe-Ditshego from Amgen Canada in attendance. Dr. Motsepe-Ditshego received the 2019 HBA Rising Star award earlier this year.

Following the introduction was a talk and Q+A session with executive coach Rachel Weinstein. Her inspirational and motivating talk shared strategies on overcoming three common hurdles and tips on making great connections. She then took questions from the audience and engaged the audience with a short activity, which got the whole room talking and brought great energy to the space.
The last hour of the event allowed attendees to talk and network with each other, exchanging smiles, handshakes and business cards. A big thank you to Throughline Strategy for sponsoring our event and providing merchandise for attendees to take with them.
